Assignment #1

                                                               Egyptian Art

In ancient Egypt, anthropomorphic techniques were used to create Egyptian art which made their creations very unique. It is when they combine both human and animals together as one. Most Egyptian sculptures like this one is made from stone. This is the female pharaoh Hatshepsut portrayed as a strong sphinx. On top is the head of a powerful pharaoh wearing a head cloth, and a beard that symbolizes royalty. The bottom half is a strong, muscular lion that shows how powerful the pharaoh truly was. The Egyptian people believed about life after death, that is why they would make sculptures to bury with their loved ones to protect them in the afterlife.
                                                                     Greek Art

In ancient Greek, the human body was the highest creation of nature.  Greek art showed great anatomy that was able to capture their strength. This piece of artwork shows the Greek god Zeus, the ruler of the sky. This art shows how truly power he was with his strong body. He has a strong facial expression that can be represented as a leader.
                                                                       Roman Art

• This particular sculpture is an eight foot tall statue of the roman emperor Constantine. He was the first roman emperor to make Christianity legal. The Romans, Greeks, and the Egyptians use sculptures to capture how powerful a person is. With no facial expression we can see a powerful leader that was highly respected. Roman art had a high sense of individuality that made their art stand out in a unique way. Romans and Greeks had some differences in their art work. The Greeks used realism in their art work to capture details. Romans used little details but used different techniques in their art.

  1. Hi Dilon- This is a fairly good essay-descriptive. My only critique is that your Hercules example is actually Greek as well, not Roman. Watch the online lecture again to review the qualities of Roman art , which are very different from the perfection of the Greeks.
